I rec’d a first bill from a Dr. for services 8 years old. do i have to pay it?

The bill was the first I had ever rec’d for the services, and shows that my insurance paid $87 leaving me with a balance of $37. I know it’s not a lot, and I’d understand if I’d been ignoring past bills, but to just bill me for it NOW seems crazy. When I called billing to complain, they said something about having “found” the bill recently in the “pending” file, and then threw something in blaming a “computer glitch” for the delay. Do I actually have to pay this? I live in California, if that matters.

Inform the billing Dept that you are willing to pay the invoice based on the same timeframes in which they invoiced you.

You are experiencing a check book “glitch” however you will make sure they are in your “pending file”, and as soon as the money is “found” they can expect payment in full sometime in the next 8 years.

Really, I would just pay the $37. You seem to agree that you had the service, so I would pay for services rendered. I’m sure there is a statute of limitations, but really… how hard to you want to fight (or how much time do you want to spend) over $37. Plus if you just pay it, it’s over and you can move on knowing you did the right thing. Regardless, good luck in your decision.
