What causes the black rubber door gaskets of dishwashers to break down, leaving black residue everywhere?

After 3 years, together my Asko dishwasher get gummy, resulting in deposition of black dirt especially in plastics, even plastic parts washer dishes. Changing the detergents does not seem to make any difference. I had the same problem with the same black boards in Bosch dishwasher! Has anyone else had this problem?
