Lost a wheel cover, it is dangerous to drive the car?

I'm usually clueless when it comes to cars. I have a 1998 Nissan Altima GXE. Yesterday I found that the wheel cover (hubcap) of my right front wheel has been lost. Because it is holiday season, no shop is open on the small town living in western Massachusetts. I know nothing about cars and am not sure if it is dangerous to drive the car like this. Is it a sign that some within mechanics at the wheel could have gone wrong, or is it just a aesthetic thing? I have a trip planned to come in a couple of days, do not want to lose the entire wheel while I'm driving to the airport, which is about an hour away. Or is there another I should know? I'm also planning outdoor park at the airport by a couple of weeks. Is the wheel to be affected by time without the wheel cover? Thank you!
