There has to be a transition area. In this area you eliminate fuels and the ability to reach fuel. Around my house the transition area is 500″. At that distance I have cut a 100′ wide path and eliminated all trees. I also keep that ground harrowed creating a break. Between that area and my house I have thinned the trees and keep the area mowed close. The wind can blow but if there is no fuel fire can’t burn. If you’re in a heavy residential area I’d say you are at the fires mercy unless the municipal personnel keep the same above.
