95 Mustang GT Ignition Switch sticks and won’t disengage?

I have a 95 mustang gt. The ignition switch was sticking on it so I replaced it with a new one. The problem is still there. When you turn the key to start it sticks and keeps the starter engaged. Are there any parts in the steering colum that might need to be replaced?

The lock itself feels like it is sticking, when you turn the key from on to start and let go it doesn’t return to the on position. Are there any parts in the steering colum that might need to be replaced?

Did you replace the lock or the switch? Replacing the lock will not help. It is the switch maybe 10% of the time.

On my old Dodge when I had this problem it was a short in the wiring near the starter relay. It can also be the starter relay, the wiring to the starter or the starter itself.
