67 convertible beetle – manual to automatic?

I paid 3000 bux for her and wanna know if I should just buy an automatic or could I change my manual to automatic without it being a huge waste of money?

I hate to break it to you but you can’t change your manual to an automatic on a 67. You would have to do a lot more than just replace the transmission. I have seen 1 conversion on a 1972 and it involved replacing the VW engine with a chevrolet engine mounted in the front and an automatic transmission. The expense was ultimately not worth it. VW did make a “semi-automatic” transmission on the beetle, however, unless you have a very good VW mechanic handy or know your way around the semi-auto system, I would recommend sticking with your plain old manual transmission (i.e. keeping the car as is) and learning to drive stick. The learning curve is short. Like someone else said, in a single weekend afternoon, you can probably pick it up quick if you have a good teacher. It’s really not that hard and of all the manual vehicles I have ever owned or driven, the VW was the most forgiving. Enjoy your classic.
