How can i reduce or stop my eyes from future damage from working with a computer for at least 6hrs in a day?

My job entails that i seat behind my laptop for hours. I had an eye problem which has been corrected by the recommended lenses and i have stopped wearing them.But since i started working here (1month now), i have pains in my eyes sometimes. I just want to know how to preserve my eyesight since i dont intend to quit my job.
