GPS update disk for a 2007 Lexus?

Question… my husband and i have a Lexus and after bringing it in for a recent service we inquired about an update for our GPS (there are several streets even very near our home that do not appear) they said it would be over $300… a brand new one is less than that… it didn’t make sense. hs anyone had a similar problem or can you offer any suggestions?

There basically are only two companies that “map” the world for GPS systems, with Navteq and TeleAtlas. The “update” disk that Lexus has is not just an update as in it’s another disc, it’s an updated package of all the discs. $300 is right for the latest version, which I believe should be ver. 8.1 for Gen 4 and 5 units. I don’t know which you have, but it should be there.

As for the missing street, is this street less than three years old? It takes the two companies mentioned previously about 2-4 years to “remap” a new quadrant, so you may not even have the latest, as it is now, streets with 8.1.
