What is the meaning of anything in the face of destruction?

What is name, fame and fortune etc. in the face of complete obliteration? One day you and I are going to die, yes, I’m sure you know thats a fact of life but have you ever wondered why then there is a need for self preservation? Why people have an attachment to material objects and the need for their name to live on? If the entire universe was obliterated, does anything really matter? Why are people scared of going into nothingness after they die?

Nothing really. Just enjoy life while you have it and be kind to others. I have better things to do than persecute others and tell them they are doomed to an afterlife of damnation just because they believe something different.
