Certified…What it is that?

Certified. What a strong word. Certified is being tossed around these days by so many. So many want to make their product or service “OFFICIAL”..So let’s tag it CERTIFIED…and the American people will bite.

Pretty sad, but it is somewhat true. But the good news is, many people aren’t bullied so easily. The good news is, that many of us know better.

Take for example- Toyota Certified used cars (feel free to plug in GM, Chrysler or your other favorite if you like…).
Not to knock Toyota, but did you know Toyota dealers pay the factory BIG money to have a car labeled certified? Not much difference between a used Corolla on the front line that is certified versus non certified, but when they advertise it and label it, the dealer has to mark the price up THOUSANDS higher than a non certified car..So, you’re better off finding a non certified Toyota…truthfully, unless you value spending $1000′s more for a few more checks on the sheet. Dealers safety check ALL used cars, and the difference in what is done is not too astonishingly different. But, the price is. Why? Because many people buy into the hype. And as it became popular in the 80′s with Public Enemy, DO NOT believe the hype.

Same goes for the term “Certified” in Paintless Dent Repair. Oh, how I love how many schools and individuals try to pass this one off. You see, there IS no certification for Paintless Dent Repair that really has ANY weight to it. Do insurance companies acknowledge a “Certification” ? No. Do dealers, body shops, or individuals know of or use a certified Paintless Dent Technician? No they do NOT.

So what is certified? N O T H I N G. Absolutely, positively, not a THING. Just a way to make something seem more important than it actually is.

I have a very novel, unique idea. How about we DROP the word certified, and we just call it training, that. Not certified. I mean, you can have a school that is certified via the state it resides in to OFFER Training and educational services, but there is not a certification that is accepted in the industry.  Bottom line is this, there is no such thing as being a certified Paintless Dent Repair Technician.
