Car Dealership never faxed information to the insurance company. Is there anything I can legally do?

I got into an accident car insurance company and said the dealer never faxed the information and it was ultimately my responsibility to make sure I had insurance so there is anything I can do or am I just screwed up with a wrecked car? You own the car. You are the owner of the policy. The insurance policy is a contract between you and the insurance company. Only – that the policyholder may make changes to its policy.
