Car Automatic

Manual versus Automatic transmissions – which is safer?
If you ask someone in support of either manual or automatic they will be able to give you some interesting arguments that might sway you either way.
Automatics
One thing for sure, and tests carried out have proven, is that there is less stress associated with driving an automatic vehicle. This is put down to the reduced number of things the driver has to worry about including changing gears. Tests show that not only are stress levels lower for automatic transmission vehicles, automatic drivers have close to the same stress levels as a passenger.
One thing some drivers do is to fidget whilst driving, for example if you have children you may turn around to check they are ok. For these drivers, an automatic transmission would be safer as the driver does not have as much to concentrate on.
The downside is that not having to concentrate as much can increase the chances of an accident as your concentration levels are considerably lower. Driver inattention is a factor in many car accidents as those against automatic transmissions have been known to argue this when accidents have occurred.
Manual
With manual transmissions, people argue that you have much more control over the car. Automatics are in effect guessing which gears to use and despite this technology being refined over the years it can not match human instinct.
It is said that in normal conditions the choices made by an automatic are usually correct, however, in abnormal situations such as snow and ice manual control is far better as it can provide more control. Safety plays an important role in the purchasing process for car buyers. Neither automatic nor manual transmissions have proven better in this sense as if they were, insurance companies would no doubt reflect this in their policies and pricing. If you are looking to purchase either a new or used car then you need to consider the complete package before deciding which one is right for you.
