I changed the purge solenoid on my 96 buick roadmaster. I engine light stayed off for a day and came back on?

The purge solenoid appeared to be bad. I blew in one vacuum inlet and air came out the other. The new one did not do that. So that was bad. But I replaced it and the engine light came on a day after I changed it. What could be the possible cause of that. Would gas in the charcoal canister cause that or maybe the vacuum switch right behind the solenoid?

Have you blown through the new solenoid yet? If you can blow through it again, try tapping “gently” on the inlet side and see if charcoal comes out. You probably have a charcoal canister coming apart internally and the vacuum from the engine is sucking the pellets up into the valve when it is opened. If the canister is indeed coming apart then you will have to replace it and blow out the lines with compressed air to clean the charcoal pellets out. Good luck with that!
