1998 Toyota Avalon XLS – setting fan speed not working?

I have electronic speed fan control settings. There were four options, from lowest to highest. The problem is that only low and the adjustment buttons work great. Is there a relay switch or fuse can be replaced to solve the problem? Any idea why is not working and what can be done to fix it yourself without having to take it to a dealer or garage? I pretty mechanically inclined but like I said I do not know what is causing the two fan speed settings in the center for not working. Thanks Suthrn; me laugh. I did not know I was mechanically inclined. Where is the blow motor relay located? I imagine the engine compartment, but where?

Blower motor resistor is bad — that controls the fan speed low and high speed is a separate relay. The resistance is mounted to the heater ductwork, either under the hood or generally under the dash by the electric Toyota. You could buy a new one and then find a similar one in the heating vent or get a service manual that shows where you are. Toyota parts department can have a diagram of location as well. Eautorepair.net have online access to manuals factory service for a reasonable price. simple solution, but can be a bit of time.
