What type of alternator does a 8000 Watt Briggs & Stratton Portable Generator have?

It’s probably a two-pole wound-rotor machine with the field coils in the rotor. Unless they’ve got some weird permanent-magnet excitation generator, they’d run the field excitation current through slip rings so that you can adjust the output voltage by varying the field current. I’m pretty sure that the machines run at 3600 rpm; if they’re rated for 1800 rpm then they’re using a four-pole alternator.
